एक कविता से दिवंगत गोरख पांडेय की याद आती है। याद उस कविता का फिल्म अभिनेता अमिताभ बच्चन द्वारा किए अनुवाद की भी आती है। उस अनुवाद के बारे में हमारी न्यूज़ एजेंसी यूएनआई के माध्यम से मुंबई से अंग्रेजी में दी गई खबर और फिर उस खबर पर बहस की भी आती है। हम कविता का वो आंग्ल अनुवाद ज्यों का त्यों बाद में पेश कर रहे हैं। पहले वह मूल हिंदी कविता :
समझदारों का गीत

हवा का रुख कैसा है, हम समझते हैं
हम उसे पीठ क्यों दे देते हैं, हम समझते हैं
हम समझते हैं ख़ून का मतलब
पैसे की कीमत हम समझते हैं
क्या है पक्ष में विपक्ष में क्या है, हम समझते हैं
हम इतना समझते हैं
कि समझने से डरते हैं और चुप रहते हैं
चुप्पी का मतलब भी हम समझते हैं
बोलते हैं तो सोच-समझकर बोलते हैं
बोलने की आजादी का
मतलब समझते हैं
टुटपुंजिया नौकरी के लिए

हम ईश्वर से दुखी रहते हैं अगर वह सिर्फ़ कल्पना नहीं है
हम सरकार से दुखी रहते हैं कि वह समझती क्यों नहीं
हम जनता से दुखी रहते हैं क्योंकि वह भेड़ियाधसान होती है
हम सारी दुनिया के दुख से दुखी रहते हैं
हम समझते हैं
मगर हम कितना दुखी रहते हैं यह भी
हम समझते हैं
यहां विरोध ही बाजिब क़दम है
हम समझते हैं
हम क़दम-क़दम पर समझौते करते हैं
हम समझते हैं
हम समझौते के लिए तर्क गढ़ते हैं
हर तर्क गोल-मटोल भाषा में
पेश करते हैं, हम समझते हैं
हम इस गोल-मटोल भाषा का तर्क भी
समझते हैं
वैसे हम अपने को
किसी से कम नहीं समझते हैं
हर स्याह को सफेद
और सफ़ेद को स्याह कर सकते हैं
हम चाय की प्यालियों में तूफ़ान खड़ा कर सकते हैं
करने को तो हम क्रांति भी कर सकते हैं
अगर सरकार कमज़ोर हो और जनता समझदार
लेकिन हम समझते हैं
कि हम कुछ नहीं कर सकते हैं
हम क्यों कुछ नहीं कर सकते

That opposition is the desired step to take

Every deep commitment we present in ambiguous language
I can understand
The reason for this ambiguous language also

If the Government is weak and the common man understanding

Amitabh Bachchan on Gorakh Pandey

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachhan has paid an unusual tribute, in a poetic way of its own kind , to his late father and poet Harivansh Rai Bachhan by translating into English a Hindi poem of late revolutionary poet , Gorakh Pandey.
Mr Bachhan , translated this poem in its entirety on the birth anniversary of his father on Thursday and published it on his blog the next day with a scanned copy of the original poem in Hindi.
A copy of the original poem in Hindi was presented to him by a Mumbai-based film journalist and JNU allumni , Ajay Brahmatmaj , as a humble gift.
What else I could present him other than a good poem. I’m happy he liked it and translated himself on his blog with due acknowledgement and respect to late Gorakh Pandey , Ajay Brahmatmaj , who had studied together with late Pandey at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, told UNI here today.
With all the modesty at his command , Big B wrote on his blog : Its very inept translation.It was given to me by a journalist of a Hindi Daily, when he came to interview me on the occasion of my Father’s Birthday. My Father’s Birthday is today, November 27th. He would have been 101 years old.
The poet was a troubled human. Intelligent and anguished by the state of the nation. He had wanted to inspire with his writing and the strength of his thinking. When he failed he committed suicide.
He was a brilliant student from the Benares Hindu University and later was with JNU , AB wrote about late Pandey, whose poems are very popular among the peasantry in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
अंग्रेजी की इस खबर पर नई दिल्ली के जवाहर लाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय (जेएनयू) के पूर्व छात्रों और प्रोफेसरों के बीच बहस का सार संक्षेप निम्नवत है:
सीपी : विदर्भ और देश के अन्य हिस्सों में सूखा और ऋणजाल की चपेट में जो हज़ारों किसान आत्महत्या कर रहे हैं क्या वह आत्महत्या है? सरकार इसे अपराध कह सकती है। मगर आम जनता कुछ और कहेगी। साहित्यकार उदय प्रकाश का कहना है गोरख पाण्डेय ने आत्महत्या नहीं की थी “व्यवस्था ” ने उनकी ह्त्या कर दी।
अमिताभ बच्चन द्वारा किए इस अनुवाद के बारे में जेएनयू के छात्र और प्रोफेसर भी रहे चमन लाल, मरहूम एक्टिविस्ट खुर्शीद अनवर और अन्य के बीच बहस हुई थी। चमन लाल का कहना था दिवंगत गोरख पाण्डेय की कविता का अनुवाद कर अमिताभ बच्चन ने खुद को “रीडीम” किया है।
लेकिन खुर्शीद ने गुजरात की तत्कालीन नरेन्द्र मोदी सरकार की छवि निखारने के अमिताभ बच्चन के कृत्य का संदर्भ देते हुए कहा था वह किसी भी तरह से खुद को रीडीम नहीं कर सकते।
कुछेक ने ये संदेह व्यक्त किया था कि अमिताभ बच्चन ने अपने नाम से किसी से अनुवाद कराया होगा।
मुझे यूएनआई के नई दिल्ली हेड ऑफिस में डेस्क पर दिल्ली पुलिस का मिला क्राइम बुलेटिन याद आता है जो अंग्रेजी में था। वन गोरख पाण्डेय कामीटेड स्युसाइड।
उदय प्रकाश ने जो कहा वह सही है। हमें उसको उस पुलिसिया मानसिकता की क्राईम बुलेटिन से समाज में फैलाए बुरे असर से बच कर वृहत्तर परिप्रेक्ष्य में समझने की जरुरत है जो एक महान कवि को वन गोरख पाण्डेय बताकर अपना पल्ला झाड़ लेता है।
उदय प्रकाश: मैं इस सच पर क़ायम हूँ। यह व्यवस्था सिर्फ हत्या और आत्महत्याओं के लिए दर्ज होगी। मैं कट्टर हिन्दुत्ववादी ब्राह्मणवाद के बावजूद अगर जीवित हूँ और अमिताभ बच्चनों जैसे मोदी समर्थकों और उनको अपना उदाहरण बनाने वाले प्रच्छन्न फासिस्टों के बावजूद लिख रहा हूँ तो साधारण लेकिन जागरूक जनता और साहित्य के जानकारों प्रेमियों की वजह से ….और शायद औलिया के रहमोकरम से। वरना ‘हिंदी’ का कट्टर सवर्ण-ब्राह्मणवादी तबक़ा पुलिस अफ़सरों और सरकारी संपर्क से मुझे भी किसी भ़यावह अंत की ओर धकेलता। इस समाज में क्रांतिकारी वही होगा, जो भ्रष्ट हिंदू वर्ग की नफ़रतों का ताज़िंदगी सामना करेगा। बाक़ी सब फ्राड है।
